Kimpton Pittsburgh: Hotel Monaco Review

This is for a 2015 trip to Pittsburgh including:

The GF and I decided to pop into Pittsburgh to visit a friend, whilst celebrating her birthday weekend and the 4th of July. We originally thought we were set on where we were staying, but plans fell through last minute, which left us scrambling for a last minute hotel reservation. Luckily, the beautiful Hotel Monaco came through for us in a big way. It should have been no surprise considering it's a Kimpton property and therefore, properly managed.

The word boutique certainly epitomizes any of the Kimpton hotels. The design is carefully thought out and the service is unparalleled. And in case you were wondering, Philly's Hotel Monaco and Hotel Palomar? Yep, they're part of the Kimpton family as well and similarly designed with aesthetics and service in mind.

Hotel Monaco PGH upgraded us to a deluxe room gratis, providing us with a little more room. It's extremely comfortable and you don't feel like you're in a hotel. It's a home away from home. The birdcage lights? The wallpaper? Heck, even the impractical half-glass shower left us impressed.

And if you're a Kimpton Rewards member? You get a $10 credit to raid the honor mini bar! Granola bars, alcohol, and a variety of snacks to satiate those late night cravings. So there's no reason not to sign up - especially considering it's free!

The fitness center has most of what you'd need from cardio to free weights. Stop by to pick up some oranges or apples. And in case you're shy and would rather stretch alone, they provide all guests with a yoga mat in the room - so there's no reason you can't start your day with a sun salutation.

If you're looking to truly relax and say nay to working out, be sure to stop by the daily free Happy Hour! From seasonal cocktails to wine and beer, they have got you covered! Here's the lovely Marissa providing generous pours to the guests, making us feel at home.

In fact, when hearing that we were there to celebrate the GF's birthday, she made sure the kitchen whipped up some cupcakes for us. How's that for service? It's certainly how you get a customer for life.

Mingling inside isn't your scene? You can certainly head up to the rooftop Biergarten to enjoy some brews, charcuterie, and probably the largest housemade pretzel you've ever seen!

The icing on the cake? Lindley, Erin, and Priya from the front desk of the Hotel Monaco sent up this wonderful charcuterie platter from the Commoner, featuring gorgeous meats, pate, cheese, pickled veggies, and bread. There was a bucket of craft beers and some artisanal waters to boot. But the most impressive part of the unbelievable service? The handwritten note and the well wishes - emblematic of the service the entire weekend. So if you're looking for a place to stay in Pittsburgh and frankly anywhere a Kimpton hotel is available, don't hesitate. I know for my trip next month to Chicago, I'll be looking at the Kimpton properties for sure.
