Slice Review

Another weeknight, another night ordering in. You know what I mean - sometimes the workdays are long and you're just not in the mood to cook. So the GF and I turned to Grubhub and settled upon Slice, which had great reviews on Yelp. They've got several locations, including outposts
in the Italian Market and Rittenhouse Square areas.

Crispy Apple Salad ($9.95)
Mesculin mix, fresh sliced green apples, cranberries, candied walnuts, gorgonzola cheese, balsamic vinaigrette

We decided to mix it up and get some salad this time around (guess who's idea this was?). Frankly, we were a bit disappointed - this was easily something that I could have thrown together in 2 minutes with what I already had in the fridge. The mesclun mix was also a bit wilted unfortunately. Other than that - it was a pretty standard salad - funky gorgonzola, sweet candied walnuts, and crisp apple slices. This was entree-sized, which meant that it also came with a bit of garlic bread, which was more like a garlic crisp or stick. Not bad, but was simply a bit of flat bread with burnt garlic on top.

Truffle Pizza ($14.95)
12'' pizza, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, mozzarella, portabella mushrooms, artichokes, black truffle oil

But really - what we're here for is the pizza. And Slice, thankfully, did not disappoint. We got two small 12'' pies to get some variety. This was a standard, but well-executed truffle oil pie - the meaty portabellas and earthy black truffle oil melded well together. The vinegary artichokes were a great touch - a sharp counterpoint to the weight of the truffle, garlic, and mozzarella. The thin crust was crisp and the dough had a nice toothsome chew to it.

Caramelized Onions & Goat Cheese Pizza ($11.95)
12'' pizza, extra virgin olive oil, mozzarella, caramelized onion, goat cheese, bacon

This pie was really good as well. The rich, savory caramelized onions paired well with the crisp bacon. The goat cheese offered some tang to balance things out. Nothing to complain about here!

Slice offers delicious pizza pies that are on the cusp of being artisanal and are a great option for pizza night. They've got a variety of pies on offer and I would not hesitate to order from them again. The salad? That's what I get for ordering rabbit food.
