Coffee Cup Review

This is the thirteenth in a series of posts for Michigan 2013.

After our trip to Mackinac Island, the GF's family and I stayed up north in Lake City, Michigan where her folks have a camper on a lake. Jet skis and a pontoon on a lake - what more can you ask for during the summer?

This was actually my second trip out to Lake City and while there aren't many culinary options in Lake City, I was excited about getting breakfast at the Coffee Cup, which has the hugest pancakes I have ever seen.

In fact, I tried to take down three of these bad boys, but I could only get down two and a half of them (granted I had some bacon on the side!).

Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes ($3.45 for 2 / $4.15 for 3)

If you don't think three pancakes are much - just take a look at how the pancakes spill over the plate. The GF went with two of the blueberry buttermilk pancakes, of which I ate one. They were thick, yet fluffy as well. Purely delicious.

Porker Omelet ($7.95)
Ham, bacon, sausage, hashed browns, cheese, sausage gravy

Now I was really excited to come back to the Coffee Cup for the porker omelet. I mean come on, I am the Belly of the Pig. In fact, the first time I came here, I had a hard time determining whether to go with the huge pancakes or this calorie-ridden monstrosity.

This was a huge omelet with crisp ham and bacon, all folded in with hashed browns and cheese. It's all topped with homemade sausage gravy which was not overly salted, which I appreciated. It also comes with two slices of buttered toast - talk about eating all of your daily calories in one sitting.

The Coffee Cup isn't fine dining. But then again that's not what you're looking for. It's good home cooked meals at an incredibly affordable price. I mean seriously - did you see the prices? If this was in Philly, I would easily pay twice as much. Service is always friendly with a smile as well. I can't wait to return to Lake City next year!

  1. Coffee Cup for the porker omelet is good idea. After the fatty food coffee is good to reduce the fat.

  2. If I drank coffee, I can see the caffeine certainly helping to stimulate what's necessary. But every once in awhile, there's nothing in wrong with a bit of gluttony or indulgence. Seems pretty obvious I live by that credo considering the title of the blog =).

  4. It was amazing in the sense that it tasted great but it was also killer in the sense that it probably added to my impending atherosclerosis. Worth it regardless.
